Case Summary

FBI investigators identified John George Todd III after a tipster said they met him in March 2021 in a Missouri bar, where Todd allegedly claimed he was inside the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. In the interaction, Todd allegedly showed video of himself on that day smoking marijuana in the building and said he had been asked to “wreak havoc” at the Capitol by someone who paid his airfare to Washington, D.C. Agents identified a mobile device associated with Todd's email accounts, and a search warrant for Google data showed the phone inside the building and on Capitol grounds on the day of the riot, court records indicate. In police body camera footage, Todd can also allegedly be seen yelling at officers: “I swear to God, I’ll hip toss your a** into the f***in’ crowd, mother f***er!” According to a sentencing memo filed by the defendant in court, Todd served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Case History

Todd pleaded Not Guilty to all charges. Found Guilty on all charges on 2/7/2024 in a Jury trial. Sentenced on 5/31/2024 to 60 Months incarceration; Supervised Release Of 36 Months; Special Assessment of $270; restitution of $2,000 to architect of Capitol and $2,514.68 to MPD for injury to police officer. Todd received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
