Case Summary
While examining the cellphone of another defendant, Jonathan Laurens, FBI agents found a photo depicting a man’s reflection in a mirror in a U.S. Capitol reception room. FBI agents claim that the image depicts Laurens’ co-worker, John Gould, and that Gould texted the message “Can you see me in the mirror?” when he sent the photo to Laurens on Jan. 6, 2021. According to an FBI statement of facts, surveillance footage also shows Gould entering the Senate wing doors at about 2:15 p.m., wearing a distinctive white cowboy hat labeled “Team Trump.” The FBI claims Gould was filmed across various parts of the building over a 40-minute period. Gould was arrested March 15, 2022, in Norcross, Ga.
Case History
Gould pleaded Guilty to one charge: Parading, Demonstrating, or Picketing in a Capitol Building. The other charges are dismissed. Sentenced on 4/28/2023 to 12 months probation; 2 months home confinement/location monitoring; 60 hours of community service restitution of $500; special assessment of $10. Gould received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
