Case Summary
A tipster told the FBI that Jody Tagaris posted pictures on Facebook under the name "Jody Echevarria-Tagaris" showing her posing in the frame of a broken window at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, according to court documents. Prosecutors say Tagaris was wearing a unique U.S. Olympics jacket, a MAGA hat and an American flag scarf. Video footage from inside the Capitol allegedly shows Tagaris entering the building through a broken window near the Senate Wing door, taking pictures and engaging with law enforcement. Later, she is reportedly seen going into the Senate Breakout Room, where she sits down at a conference room table until Washington, D.C., Metropolitan Police officers arrive and she vacates the room and exits the building. Tagaris was a former Palm Beach County, Fla., Commission candidate and a Republican activist, according to local news reports.
Case History
Tagaris pleaded Guilty to one charge: Entering and Remaining in Certain Rooms in the Capitol Building. The other charges are dismissed. Sentenced on 6/6/2022 to 24 months probation; 60 hours of community service; $2,000 fine; $500 restitution; special assessment of $10. Tagaris received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
