Case Summary
Jia Liu enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves in 2014 and is currently listed as an E-4 (corporal) cyber network operator, according to an FBI affidavit. He’s also the sole member of Memelope LLC, a business registered with the state of New York, according to the court documents. The affidavit notes that records from New York Police license plate readers show a Jeep Wrangler registered to Liu’s stepfather leaving New York City around 5:30 a.m. on Jan. 6, 2021, and returning toward Queens around midnight that evening. FBI agents allege that Liu entered the U.S. Capitol twice on Jan. 6, 2021. First, surveillance footage allegedly shows Liu standing inside and snapping cellphone photos for about seven minutes before exiting through a broken window. About 25 minutes later, Liu reentered the Capitol and remained inside for almost a half-hour, according to the court documents.

Sentenced on 6/15/2023 to 4 months incarceration; 12 months of supervised release; special assessment of $25; restitution of $500. Liu received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
