Case Summary
Federal prosecutors allege that Jerod Bargar illegally brought a 9 millimeter handgun in an American flag holster to Washington, D.C., which he then dropped outside the U.S. Capitol on Capitol grounds during the rioting. Police officers recovered the gun from the ground around 2:30 p.m. and, according to court papers, managed to later trace the gun to Bargar. During an interview with law enforcement, Bargar allegedly admitted that he brought the gun with him - despite not having a license to carry in Washington, D.C. - for “self-protection" while going to the “belly of the beast." Court papers indicate that the gun had a cartridge in the chamber, and a magazine that held more than 10 rounds, which is illegal in the District of Columbia.
