Case Summary
Law enforcement claimed in a court filing that Jeffrey Schaefer was first brought to their attention by a tipster who took screenshots of his social media accounts. In one alleged post by Schaefer, he posted an image of what appears to be the inside of the U.S. Capitol, with the caption, "THE CAPITAL HAS BEEN BREACHED... IT IS FILLING UP... THEY CAN'T STOP US." The FBI was able to link a Facebook photo of Schaefer, obtained through a search warrant, with an image from a body camera worn by a police officer at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, court documents indicate. In both photos, the person the FBI identifies as Schaefer is seen wearing the same green baseball hat with the word "REALTREE" on the front. The FBI also obtained video from inside the Capitol in which Schaefer is allegedly seen entering the building through a broken window on the Senate side. This video suggests that he was inside the Capitol for approximately 28 minutes, the FBI said.

Schaefer pleaded Guilty to one charge: Parading, Demonstrating, or Picketing in a Capitol Building. The other charges are dismissed. Sentenced 11/18/2022 to to 30 days of incarceration, $2,000 fine, $500 restitution, $10 special assessment. Schaefer received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
