Case Summary

Building surveillance video, police body-worn camera footage and video posted to social media all allegedly show Jay Kenyon inside the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. Kenyon first came to the attention of the FBI when someone sent a Facebook post of Kenyon's to the bureau. In the post, Kenyon allegedly wrote that he went into the building and repeated claims that the day was not violent, which myriad evidence from the day disputes: “We were let in by Capitol Police and then they attacked. No patriot broke one damn thing inside the Capitol on purpose. Capitol police attacking caused any damage.” In a Facebook post described in the court documents from Dec. 20, 2020, Kenyon wrote: “'Trump: January 6, 2021 Washington DC Be There, Will be Wild' Be part of the revolution. It’s gonna be fun!” The next day, he posted again: "DAMN right if you think Im going FULL ON PATRIOT! I AM RADICALIZED!!"

Case History

Kenyon pleaded Not Guilty to all charges. The court dismisses the Obstruction charge on 9/12/2024. A Bench trial verdict on 10/1/2024 finds him Guilty on all remaining charges. Sentenced on 1/10/2025 to 15 months of incarceration; 24 months of supervised release; $170 Special Assessment; Restitution of $2,000. Kenyon received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
