Case Summary
Prosecutors allege Jason Hyland helped arrange a private plane — which he called a "Patriot Flight" — to take himself and others to Washington, D.C., for the rallies on Jan. 6, 2021. Hyland later entered the Capitol building during the rioting, prosecutors allege, and can be seen in surveillance footage from inside the building. Federal agents interviewed Hyland, and he allegedly said that it appeared people were being actively let into the Capitol by law enforcement. Hyland said he asked a Capitol Police officer if he could go inside the Capitol, and the officer allegedly replied, "Everyone else is."
Case History
Hyland pleaded Guilty to one charge: Parading, Demonstrating, or Picketing in a Capitol Building. The other charges are dismissed. Sentenced on 8/9/2022 to 7 days incarceration; $10 special assessment; $500 in restitution; $4,000 fine. Hyland received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
