Case Summary

On Jan. 6, 2021, Jason Gerding posted a photograph to what federal investigators believe is his Twitter account. According to a criminal complaint, the photo shows Gerding inside the Capitol rotunda posing in front of a painting of the Declaration of Independence with the caption "Quincy Made it Inside," a reference to his hometown. Other tweets from that account in the days leading up to the Capitol siege show Gerding's alleged embrace of QAnon, the outrageous conspiracy theory that claims Satan-worshipping pedophiles are running a global child sex-trafficking ring and plotting against Donald Trump. Screenshots of the account in court documents show a "Q" background banner and a profile picture of Trump. In one tweet dated Dec. 21, 2020, Gerding asks "Anons" if they know of a good place to stay in Washington, D.C., for the rally. Several days later, Gerding tweeted, "So much disinformation coming out I don't know what is real what is fake. I trust the plan.... I'll be in DC Jan 6th, but my head is starting to hurt."

Case History

Gerding pleaded Guilty to one charge: Parading, Demonstrating, or Picketing in a Capitol Building. The other charges are dismissed. Sentenced on 5/16/2023 to 24 months probation; $10 special assessment; $500 restitution; 60 hours of community service. Gerding received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
