Case Summary

Jason Dolan, according to federal prosecutors, has connections with the anti-government extremist militia group known as the Oath Keepers and goes by the moniker Turmoil. After the November 2020 presidential election, Dolan allegedly conspired with other members of the Oath Keepers to interfere with the certification of President Biden's electoral victory by Congress. Dolan participated in an encrypted group chat (called "OK FL DC OP Jan 6") with the Oath Keepers using the app Signal, prosecutors allege. Two days before the riot, Dolan rented a van and traveled to Washington, D.C., with another defendant from Florida, Kenneth Harrelson, prosecutors say. Around 2:40 p.m. on the day of riot, Dolan and Harrelson joined a military-style "stack" formation with other alleged members of the Oath Keepers and breached the Capitol building, according to the federal allegations. The group then moved into the Capitol Rotunda, and Dolan and Harrelson allegedly remained inside the building until 2:57 p.m. Around 4 p.m., prosecutors say, Dolan joined with other Oath Keepers near the Capitol, including the organization's leader, Stewart Rhodes. Rhodes is identified as "Person 1" in the indictment and has not been charged in connection with the Capitol breach. A spokesperson for the United States Marine Corps confirmed to NPR that Dolan served in the Marines for nearly 20 years and reached the rank of Staff Sergeant. He deployed to Iraq in 2004, a year after the U.S. invasion.
