Case Summary

Court documents say that in the course of the FBI's investigation into the riot at the U.S. Capitol, investigators found information that a device linked with a Google account allegedly owned by Jared Kastner was inside the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. Agents then compared his driver's license photo to the images and videos from the riot, and allegedly found a match. They also looked at photos in his Google account, including one that shows him three days before Jan. 6, 2021, with the same "distinctive" facial hair shown in images of the riot: thick sideburns connected to a mustache and a clean-shaven chin. Kastner has been charged along with Luke Faulkner, and they apparently entered the building together, according to the criminal complaint. Surveillance footage allegedly shows Kastner and Faulkner in the Crypt of the Capitol, among a crowd pushing through officers that were attempting to hold them back. In addition to the footage, multiple records obtained by law enforcement show that Kastner traveled to an apartment in North Beach, Md., in the first week of January 2021 from his home in Ohio. Agents spoke with a person who lived in that apartment who said that Kastner and another person stayed there the night before the riot and said they were going into Washington, D.C., to attend the Trump rally the next day.

Case History

Kastner pleaded Not Guilty to all charges. Found Guilty on all charges in a Jury trial on 4/11/2024. Sentenced on 10/23/2024 to 5 months of incarceration; 1 year of Supervised Release; $70 Special Assessment. Kastner received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
