Case Summary

Footage inside the U.S. Capitol building allegedly shows Jamie Buteau throwing a chair at two U.S. Capitol Police officers as they are retreating from the crowd, hitting one of the officers. Multiple tipsters, including a family member, contacted the FBI identifying both Jamie Buteau and his wife, Jennifer Peck Buteau, as having been inside the building on Jan. 6, 2021, based on live videos they posted on Facebook that were later deleted, according to court documents. Other footage also allegedly shows Jamie Buteau dragging a second chair after the first incident, which he ends up leaving in one of the hallways. An additional tipster alerted the FBI that both Buteaus appeared in HBO’s Vice News Tonight report from August 2018 on QAnon believers. The FBI later confirmed that the video indeed featured the husband and wife.

Case History

Buteau pleaded Guilty to one charge: Assaulting, Resisting, or Impeding Certain Officers. The other charges are dismissed. Sentenced on 11/20/2023 to 22 months incarceration; 24 months of supervised release; $100 special assessment; $2,000 restitution. Buteau received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
