Case Summary
James Robert Elliott, also known as Jim Bob Elliott, is accused of using a flagpole to assault police officers while on the U.S. Capitol grounds on Jan. 6, 2021, according to a federal indictment, and is also accused of entering the building that day. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Elliott is reportedly a member of the far-right Proud Boys, and could be heard at the riot shouting “patriots, what is your occupation” — apparently a reference to the movie 300 — before allegedly thrusting the flagpole toward officers. Elliott was arrested on Dec. 20, 2021, in Batavia, Ill.
Case History
Elliott pleaded Guilty to one charge: Assaulting, Resisting, or Impeding Certain Officers or Employees. The other charges are dismissed. Sentenced on 6/22/2023 to 37 months of incarceration; 24 months of supervised release; $100 special assessment; $2,000 restitution. Elliott received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
