Case Summary
According to a federal affidavit, the FBI was led to James Lollis, Jr. by the individual he went to the U.S. Capitol with on Jan. 6, 2021. Lollis traveled to Washington with Derek Gunby, who had already been charged in connection with the riot. Federal agents identified Lollis from a Facebook video made of the two by Gunby, as they left the Capitol on the Washington Metro. During the video, Gunby introduces his companion by saying, “I went with James here, Jame[s] Lollis,” and turns the camera to a man later identified as Lollis. Later, Gunby says, “We didn’t bring weapons,” while an off-camera voice is heard stating, “we should.” According to court documents, the FBI looked at body camera footage from the day and Lollis can allegedly be seen addressing officers saying, “Y’all on the same team we are, aren't you? You’re not going to respond? You’re not on the same team?" Footage from inside the Capitol also appears to show Lollis’ image, as well as a moment where he appears to be sprayed in the face by officers trying to hold the crowd off. Later, in Gunby’s video, he says of his companion, “Yeah, yeah. James here took a good bear mace can spray straight to the face.”
Case History
Lollis pleaded Guilty to the charge. Sentenced 2/18/2022 to 36 months probation with 90 days of home detention/location monitoring; $10.00 special assessment and $500.00 restitution; 100 hours of community service. Lollis received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
