Case Summary

Twenty days after the riots at the U.S. Capitol, an anonymous tipster wrote to the FBI: “I was made aware that an individual that works at Yoder locksmith in Nevada, Missouri was involved in the storming of the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. I am unsure of the gentleman’s first name but know the day of the event he was inside the Capitol and was dressed as George Washington.” According to the FBI, Isaac Samuel Yoder, the owner of that business, dressed in colonial period attire, attended President Donald Trump’s rally at the mall and later entered the Capitol building, where he walked around the Rotunda taking pictures. In a Newsweek article published in March, Yoder stated he wore the George Washington costume as a nod to America’s founders. "Most of us out there are on the side of the aisle who are the gun owners … If we had collectively gone there to cause trouble there would have been piles of bodies. We could have leveled things," he told Newsweek. But Yoder also stated he did not have any altercations with the police and remained in the building for several minutes only, which was confirmed by footage analyzed by the FBI. Yoder also told Newsweek that he believed the election was stolen.

Case History

Yoder pleaded Not Guilty to all charges. Found Guilty on all charges in a Bench trial on 5/26/2023. Sentenced on 8/25/2023 to 12 months incarceration; 12 months supervised release; special assessment of $70; a fine of $1,000; restitution of $500. Yoder received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
