Case Summary
Iraj Javid allegedly appears on the “Sedition Hunters” website – an open source platform of people identifying Jan. 6, 2021, rioters who may have committed crimes that day. He was identified to the FBI by a cooperating individual using photos from the website, images that allegedly show Javid near the Speaker’s Lobby in the U.S. Capitol right after Ashli Babbitt was shot. He also appears to be in several other locations inside the building that day, including the rotunda. Once the FBI concluded that the images seem to depict Javid, a search turned up his Virginia driver’s license and his name on LinkedIn, which indicated he is an employee at WMATA, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority. Court documents indicate that others employed at WMATA also identified him, and agents were also able to use cellphone data to confirm that a phone number associated with Javid was inside the Capitol on Jan. 6.
Case History
Javid pleaded Guilty to one charge: Parading, Demonstrating, or Picketing in a Capitol Building. The other charges are dismissed. Sentenced 2/3/2022 to 24 months Probation with 90 days of home detention; special assessment of $10; restitution of $500. Javid received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
