Case Summary

On Jul. 5, 2021, Ian MacBride posted a picture on Instagram that showed an "Area Closed" sign hung up in his basement bar area -- a sign that, according to federal investigators, was taken from the U.S. Capitol grounds on Jan. 6. Closed-circuit television from that day showed MacBride entering the Capitol building through the Senate Wing Door at approximately 2:18 pm, just five minutes after that entrance had been breached by protesters. He spent the next twenty-one minutes following the crowd through several rooms and passageways, before exiting through the Memorial Door. The next day, he posted online "I don't regret my part in occupying the building." He was arrested on Jan. 11, 2024, in Pennsylvania.

Case History

MacBride pleaded Not Guilty to all charges. Jury trial set for 4/4/2025. On 1/21/2025, the court grants the government’s motion to dismiss the case with prejudice
