Case Summary
Weeks before the U.S. Capitol siege, 18-year-old Jackson Reffitt contacted the FBI, according to a phone interview he did with the New York Times. He wanted to put his father on its radar. Not long after that call, Guy Reffitt allegedly turned up in Washington, D.C., where investigators believe he was sprayed with some kind of chemical irritant for getting so close to the police line protecting the Capitol building on Jan. 6, 2021. According to court documents, Reffitt allegedly told his family when he got home that he was at the Capitol during the breach and went to Washington to protect the country. He also allegedly said he took his gun with him, and told his kid: "If you turn me in, you're a traitor. And you know what happens to traitors. Traitors get shot." Reffitt is allegedly a member of the a far-right Three Percenters militia, according to his wife.
