Dwyer received a full federal pardon in March 2025. In a separate company development, BitMEX confirmed trading ceased September 23, 2026. That announcement does not establish his current role or a new legal disposition.

Original Case

Gregory Dwyer was an early employee and senior business-development executive at the cryptocurrency derivatives exchange BitMEX. He pleaded guilty in August 2022 to one Bank Secrecy Act offense for willfully failing to establish and maintain the anti-money-laundering program required for a business serving U.S. customers. He agreed to a $150,000 criminal fine and received one year of probation. A separately charged conspiracy count is not described as a conviction because the dossier does not contain its final disposition.

Clemency

Trump granted Dwyer a full and unconditional pardon on March 27, 2025. The grant relieved the remaining federal consequences of his Bank Secrecy Act conviction. It was issued alongside pardons for BitMEX founders Arthur Hayes, Benjamin Delo, and Samuel Reed, but did not itself alter separate corporate or regulatory obligations.

Trump Connection

Dwyer’s clemency was part of Trump’s coordinated pardon of four BitMEX executives. The public materials identify no personal, campaign, or business relationship with Trump, no named outside advocate, and no individualized White House rationale. The shared timing shows a company-linked group of grants rather than a private relationship.

Since Clemency

  • 2026-09-23 · related company development

BitMEX confirmed that its exchange stopped trading on September 23, 2026, following a board decision announced in July. Account access continued for withdrawals and wind-down matters.

Legal Status: Company business development; the announcement does not establish any individual's current management role, a new charge, or a change to the separate presidential pardon.
