Case Summary
Like many charged in the Jan. 6, 2021, riot, Glen Mitchell Simon was identified via social media by multiple tipsters, including one who attended school with him. Photos and videos posted on Simon's Facebook account showed him inside the U.S. Capitol, with one video saying, "We weren't invited, we broke in here," according to court documents. One photo shows him on the steps of the Capitol building, embracing a person wearing a rubber mask shaped like a bald eagle. Simon reportedly deleted many of the posts, but FBI agents tracked him down via a search of publicly available databases. When agents called him, Simon asked if they were contacting him about being in the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, court documents say. He then admitted that while he was in the picture on the steps of the Capitol, he was not in the building, and he denied taking any photos or video that day, documents say. However, law enforcement was able to identify him by comparing the Facebook photos with surveillance videos that appear to show him walking through the Capitol, the documents say.
Case History
Simon pleaded Guilty to one charge: Disorderly and Disruptive Conduct in a Restricted Building or Grounds. The other charges are dismissed. Sentenced on 8/12/2022 to 8 months incarceration; 12 months of supervised release; $1,000 fine; $500 restitution; $25 special assessment. Simon received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
