Case Summary
In the fall of 2022, online sleuths first identified Gene DiGiovanni, Jr., as allegedly having been at the U.S. Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021, and alerted a Connecticut NBC affiliate to their findings. The TV station then interviewed DiGiovanni, who told them, "I was there, I went inside there, and, you know, I didn’t damage or break anything. Obviously you got the pictures to prove it.” DiGiovanni can allegedly be seen on surveillance footage from inside the Capitol as well. He is an alderman in Derby, Conn., though was not in that position at the time of the riot, according to the NBC station.
Case History
DiGiovanni pleaded Guilty to the charge. Sentenced on 4/24/2024 to 10 days incarceration; 12 months of Supervised Release; $25 Special Assessment; Restitution in the amount of $500; 50 hours of community service. DiGiovanni received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
