Case Summary
According to court papers and news coverage of the riot on Jan. 6, 2021, there were numerous reports of news media members who were targeted for harassment and threats. Gabriel Brown, prosecutors allege, was one of the people identified as participating in an assault on a media staging area outside of the U.S. Capitol building. Brown is allegedly seen on a publicly available YouTube video recording his own view of events and trying to smash cameras and other media equipment; he can also be heard saying to someone, “my name’s Gabriel Brown GB0083 YouTube channel.” Additionally, the FBI alleges, he can be heard pushing others to destroy and steal equipment, and saying: “F*** the AP. You f***ing frauds. You want to f***ing lie about all of us. Well, you know what, here, report this s***! Because your f***ing media is dead mother f***er. It’s dead, the legacy media is dead.” Brown was identified by multiple tips that indicate he was well-known in his community. In addition, another video posted on Twitter shows a man whom the FBI identifies as Brown, in which he signs a “Stop the Steal” banner with the words: “Gabriel Brown Freedom!!”
