Case Summary
Frederic Fiol first came to the attention of the FBI after an informant contacted the bureau to say that Fiol had sent videos through Facebook Messenger showing the inside of the U.S. Capitol building on Jan. 6, 2021, according to federal court documents. The FBI then reviewed Fiol's Facebook account and allegedly found multiple photos and videos of the inside of the U.S. Capitol, some of which Fiol had unsent. In one message, Fiol wrote “I made history.” In another, when the informant wrote him: “Fred don’t tell me you was running inside the capital [sic] today lmao,” Fiol allegedly replied: “Don’t believe the media, it was 99% peaceful.” According to court records, Fiol can also be seen in surveillance footage from inside the building and in CNN news footage.

Fiol pleaded Guilty to two charges: Disorderly Conduct in a Capitol Building; and Parading, Demonstrating, or Picketing in a Capitol Building. The other charges are dismissed. Sentenced on 3/15/2024 to 45 days incarceration; 24 months of Probation; special assessment of $20; restitution of $500. Fiol received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
