Case Summary
According to court documents, a tipster who recorded a video Felipe Marquez posted on Snapchat turned over the evidence to federal investigators. The video is a compilation of clips allegedly showing Marquez driving from Florida to Washington, a scene from an outdoor rally near the Washington Monument, a crowd on the U.S. Capitol grounds, people climbing over a stone rail/fence and eventually a scene inside a conference room that federal investigators believe is in the office of Sen. Jeff Merkley, D-Ore. Marquez spoke with CBS Miami after the riot. “I went on the 6th to D.C. to protest against communism and prostitution,” Marquez said. "This is like a Rosa Parks, like Martin Luther King moment for me." Marquez said he learned about the event in Washington from the remarks of the president.
