Case Summary
In February, Erik Rau’s friend Derek Jancart was arrested in connection with the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection, court documents show. Jancart told prosecutors he entered the U.S. Capitol with Rau, and the FBI says Jancart identified Rau in photos from the Capitol. On the same day of Jancart's arrest, Rau called the U.S. Marshals Service in Columbus, Ohio, asking to turn himself in, according to court documents. Both Jancart and Rau gave the FBI Rau’s phone number, according to prosecutors. The FBI says that it served a search warrant on Google, and that a mobile device associated with Rau’s number was determined to be in the Capitol for 39 minutes on Jan. 6, 2021.
Case History
Rau pleaded Guilty to one count of Disorderly Conduct in a Capitol Building. The other charges were dismissed. Sentenced 9/29/2021 to 45 days in jail; $10 assessment; and $500 restitution. Rau received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
