Case Summary
Duke Edward Wilson was identified from numerous video recordings, including some posted on YouTube as well as surveillance footage and body camera footage from law enforcement, according to court documents. Several law enforcement officers who had run-ins with Wilson identified him from the footage as the man who can allegedly be seen pushing, punching and striking officers with what prosecutors believe was a long thin PVC pipe, during a confrontation in the tunnel of the lower west terrace at the U.S. Capitol. Wilson can be seen wearing a purple and white basecall cap that said "CNN" along with the words "Fake News" on it.
Case History
Wilson pleaded Guilty to two charges: Assaulting, Resisting, or Impeding Certain Officers; and Obstruction of an Official Proceeding. The other charges were dismissed. Sentenced 3/4/2022 to 51 months incarceration to run concurrent; 36 months Supervised Release to run concurrent; a $100 Special Assessment on each of the counts totaling $200. Wilson received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
