Case Summary
A Facebook friend reported Doug Macrae to the FBI on Jan. 7, 2021, court documents show. Macrae allegedly posted three photos on Jan. 6, 2021: a selfie from outside the U.S. Capitol, a photo of a staircase and large painting, and a photo of what seems to be a hallway inside the Capitol. The FBI says that in two in-person interviews, Macrae confirmed he entered the Capitol and took the photos found on his Facebook account. According to court documents, a person believed to be Macrae can be seen wearing a dark jacket and a blue and brown beanie in surveillance footage from the attack on the Capitol. Macrae also allegedly confirmed his cellphone number in interviews, and investigators say the phone associated with that number used cell towers consistent with an area that includes the U.S. Capitol on the day of the riot. Macrae was arrested in May of 2022.
Case History
Macrae pleaded Guilty to one charge: Parading, Demonstrating, or Picketing in any of the Capitol Buildings. The other charges are dismissed. Sentenced on 10/21/2022 to 12 months Probation, a $10 Special Assessment, and $500 in Restitution; 50 hours community service. Macrae received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
