Donald Hazard has been charged with engaging in physical violence and assaulting police officers on Jan. 6, 2021, according to court documents. On the day of the riot, Hazard allegedly wore a tan tactical vest, as well as a black helmet with the Confederate flag printed on it. Footage reportedly depicts Hazard grappling with officers as he fell down a set of stairs under a scaffolding erected on the west side of the U.S. Capitol. According to the FBI, Hazard fought with an officer, which resulted in both of them falling. The officer was knocked unconscious and sustained multiple injuries, court records indicate. Prior to Jan. 6, 2021, Hazard allegedly helped recruit members to a self-proclaimed militia group called the Patriot Boys of North Texas, where he served as sergeant of arms. Hazard has been detained, pending further proceedings.
