Case Summary

In November 2020, David Kuntz messaged a group on Facebook about the presidential election, "we must start showing the world we will not stand for anymore sh** its time to take action and stop watching," according to court documents. As described by prosecutors, Kuntz referred to himself as "Reaper" in his social media chats. The next month, in a private social media channel, Kuntz allegedly wrote “[L]et’s go train and remove the Democratic party it is a must.” After Donald Trump posted on Twitter that there would be a "wild" protest in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 6, 2021, Kuntz allegedly wrote to the group, "January the 6th will be the target date for D.C. this goes to all groups that can help to defend those that can not defend themselves," and in another message, he allegedly wrote that he was "going armed." According to court documents, Kuntz later told federal investigators that he belonged to the "Three Percenter" militia movement along with a militia called the "Grey Ghost Partisan Kentucky Rangers." During the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, Kuntz allegedly entered the restricted area around the Capitol building near a door that was breached and yelled, "f*** the police." Prosecutors do not allege that he entered the Capitol building. Kuntz was arrested on Mar. 7, 2024, in New Albany, Ind.

Case History

Kuntz pleaded Guilty to one charge: Conspiracy to Impede or Injure Officers. Sentencing set for 4/1/2025. On 1/21/2025, the court grants the government’s motion to dismiss the case with prejudice.
