Case Summary
Court documents allege that on Jan. 6, 2021, David Anthony Medina destroyed a wooden sign outside of then-Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi's office in the U.S. Capitol building as protestors ransacked the office. In a video recorded the following day, Medina says, "I just took a piece and I just kinda broke it in half. It felt so good." Text messages obtained by federal investigators from the weeks before the riot showed that Medina replied "I'm down" when a friend suggested that they storm the Capitol if the results of the 2020 election were not reversed during the certification process on Jan. 6. He was arrested on Feb. 16, 2024, in Portland, Ore.
