Case Summary
The criminal complaint against Cory Brannan, an employee at the Midland County Sheriff's Office in Texas, says he was identified as having been inside the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, by the FBI using cellphone location data. Once agents went through his cellphone records, they found he’d been in touch with many other individuals alleged to have participated in the riot. Photos of Brannan online show him at the Capitol wearing a black hoodie, camouflage pants and a khaki vest with scissors and goggles. The vest had various patches, including one for the Three Percenters, an anti-government extremist group. There are multiple images that appear to show Brannan on the day of the riot, allegedly climbing into the Capitol through a window and walking around inside the building as well. Brannan was identified in photos by a captain of the Midland County Sheriff's Office in Texas where Brannan works as a jailer.
Case History
Brannan pleaded Guilty to one charge: Parading, Demonstrating, or Picketing in a Capitol Building. The other charges are dismissed. Sentenced on 9/23/2022 to 30 days incarceration; 24 months of probation, 60 hours of community service, $500 restitution; Special assessment of $10. Brannan received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
