Case Summary
According to federal court documents, Cody Connell stormed the Capitol building with his cousin Daniel Page Adams on Jan. 6, 2021. He told someone on social media, according to the court files, that “4 of us breached the cops blockage and us same 4 breached the Capitol.” Just a day earlier, Connell reposted a message saying, “Join President Donald J. Trump at the Save America March.” He added the comment, “Definitely gonna be an experience.” An unknown individual, according to court documents, also sent authorities a screenshot of what appears to be a Facebook exchange between Connell and an individual on Jan. 7, 2021, in which Connell writes, “I have more videos of us breaching the Capitol but not gonna post them. We will be back and it will be a lot worse than yesterday.” According to court documents, Connell had communicated with at least two other people in Texas about purchasing long-rifle firearms, ammunition and body armor for a second trip to Washington that Connell was planning for the week of Jan.18, 2021. According to a witness interviewed by the FBI, Connell said he was not returning to Louisiana unless he was in a body bag. Authorities said in court filings that they understood that to mean that Connell intended to be in D.C. “to cause violence that may result in the end of his life.”
