Case Summary
Cody Lee Tippett was flagged by the FBI as agents were looking to find residents of an address associated with another alleged rioter at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, Dustin Martin, according to federal prosecutors. Multiple tipsters submitted information that Martin traveled to Washington, DC, to attend President’s Trump rally and then walked over to the Capitol and entered the building. On pictures taken inside – Martin is seen posing for pictures with Tippett, who is giving a thumbs up to the camera. According to the FBI, the men traveled together to Washington, based on information found on Martin’s social media and private messages: “Bro me and Cody are going to DC for the Trump rally and electoral college votes but look if you wanna fly down, we’re driving." He later wrote: “Me and Cody are in D.C. what up what up." According to court documents, Tippett had a prior conviction in the Southern Judicial District of Ohio and his probation officer was able to confirm his identity to law enforcement.
