Case Summary
Charles Hand III attended the Jan. 6, 2021, rally to “protest and stop the certification of what I personally believe to be an election stolen from the American people,” according to screenshots of his Facebook page included in an FBI statement of facts. His post also included the accusation that “Antifa sporting Trump gear were the ones who caused the chaos and who vandalized and attacked the Capitol Police," though there is no evidence suggesting antifa played any major role in the attack. According to court documents, video footage shows Hand breaking off a piece of metal fencing outside the U.S. Capitol and pocketing it in the early afternoon. More than an hour later, surveillance footage from inside the building allegedly captured Hand and his wife, Mandy Robinson-Hand, who is also charged in relation to the riot. Court documents indicate that surveillance footage shows Robinson-Hand restraining Hand at one point as he allegedly tried to move toward a scuffle between police and protesters. Hand and his wife were arrested March 11 in Butler, Ga.

Hand pleaded Guilty to one charge: Parading, Demonstrating, or Picketing in a Capitol Building. The other charges are dismissed. Sentenced on 1/13/2023 to 20 days incarceration; 6 months Probation; a $10 Special Assessment; Restitution of $500; 60 hours of community service. Hand received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
