Case Summary
The FBI reviewed many social media posts showing Charles Espinosa on January 6, 2021, known by the Instagram username “Charlie_alpha_echo,” court documents state. One video tagging that account showed Espinosa on the steps of the Capitol, speaking to the crowd through a megaphone held by another rioter, saying, “I think this should be happening in every single major city in the country.” Espinosa’s previous employer provided his attendance records to the FBI, showing he requested paid time off for January 6 and 7, 2021. In the leave request comments section for January 7, Espinosa allegedly submitted: “Stop the steal!” The FBI further reviewed other unrestricted, public social media posts that allegedly contained pictures of him with what appeared to be a large knife concealed in the rear waistband of his pants. Court documents state that he entered the Capitol building around 2:14 pm and exited 45 minutes later. He was arrested Mar. 26, 2024 in Derry, NH.
