Case Summary

Federal prosecutors allege that Brian Ulrich conspired with members of the extremist anti-government militia group known as the Oath Keepers to disrupt Congress on Jan. 6, 2021. Ulrich has been indicted along with several members of the group. According to the indictment, Ulrich goes by the moniker "Molon Labe" and allegedly participated in conversations on the encrypted messaging service Signal in a group message labeled "DC OP: Jan 6 21." On Dec. 31, 2020, Ulrich reportedly wrote the following message on the chat: "The more patriots the merrier 'gonna be wild." Later he allegedly wrote, "Someone can tell me if I'm crazy but I'm planning on having a backpack for regular use and then a separate backpack with my ammo load out with some basics that I can [just] switch too is [sic] s**t truly the fan blades. ..." According to court documents, Ulrich also asked another member on Signal: "Hey we told to bring guns and maybe stage them in VA ...?" On Jan. 4, 2021, Ulrich traveled with others to Washington, D.C., from Alabama and Georgia, and stayed at the Mayflower Hotel, court documents say. On the day of the riot, he headed for the U.S. Capitol in a golf cart along with others named in the indictment. He continued on foot and ultimately pushed his way inside through the Rotunda doors, and then, according to court documents, left the same way he came in.

Case History

Ulrich pleaded Guilty to two charges: Seditious Conspiracy and Obstruction of an Official Proceeding. The other charges are dismissed. Sentenced on 11/19/2024 to 36 months probation; special assessment of $200; restitution of $2,000. Ulrich received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
