Case Summary
Brian Raymond Jones researched the marijuana laws in Washington, D.C., before traveling there to attend the pro-Trump rally on Jan. 6, 2021, according to an FBI statement of facts. After the rally, he allegedly marched to the U.S. Capitol and, with co-defendant Patrick King, then smoked marijuana inside the building, according to their middle school classmate who claimed to have seen photos on Facebook and tipped off the FBI in February of 2021. Investigators say surveillance footage shows Jones passing through the Senate Wing doors shortly after 2 p.m. and then walking through the rotunda. According to the FBI, Google records allegedly show Jones spent the evening of Jan. 6 searching phrases such as “Is it illegal to go into the Capitol” and “Unlawful entry charge,” among others. Court documents also allege that Facebook records show Jones told Facebook friends he deleted anything “political” from his account and was creating a second account for only close friends and family, as he grew anxious about getting arrested for allegedly entering the Capitol. He was arrested March 23, 2022, in Seattle.

Sentenced on 5/9/2023 to 24 months of Probation; $10 Special Assessment; Restitution of $500; 60 hours of community service. Jones received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
