Case Summary
Before the U.S. Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021, Brent Holdridge was wanted by law enforcement for failing to report to jail in Humboldt County, Calif., to begin serving a four-month sentence for possession of a controlled substance, according to an FBI statement of facts. Holdridge was arrested in February for that offense and, according to the statement of facts, he later showed photos from his trip to Washington, D.C., to his probation officer, although he claimed he stayed outside the Capitol on the day of the riot. However, the probation officer reportedly identified Holdridge in surveillance footage as a man carrying a rolled-up flag through the Capitol, appearing to record video on a cellphone. Additionally, cellphone records appear to show Holdridge's mobile device as having been present in the building during the riot, according to the statement of facts. When interviewed by FBI agents in September, Holdridge allegedly confirmed his presence at the “Stop the Steal” rally, but he refused to answer whether he entered the Capitol, adding that he “did not steal anything, touch or assault anyone, or damage any property.” He surrendered on Dec. 2, 2021, at the Santa Rita Jail in Dublin, Calif.
