Case Summary
“We’re going to take this damn place. If you haven’t heard it’s called the insurrection act and we the people are ready,” said Boyd Camper in an interview with CBS News on Jan. 6, 2021, according to court documents. Multiple witnesses confirmed to the FBI that Camper went inside the U.S. Capitol building carrying a GoPro camera on a stick. Days later, Camper told FBI agents in an interview that “in my mind, we were going to take the Capitol steps.” He also said he entered the building through a small door that led to the Rotunda and then proceeded to a room “with statues.” According to court documents, Camper told the FBI they couldn't review the footage he took on his camera if they would use the content against him. According to sentencing memos filed in court, Camper served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
