BitMEX confirmed that exchange trading ceased September 23, 2026 and account access remained available for withdrawals and wind-down matters. This company announcement does not establish a current individual executive role or alter the separate federal pardon.

Original Case

Benjamin Delo co-founded the cryptocurrency derivatives exchange BitMEX. He pleaded guilty on February 24, 2022 to willfully failing to create and maintain the anti-money-laundering program required by the Bank Secrecy Act. His plea agreement included a $10 million criminal fine, and the court sentenced him to 30 months of probation. He was convicted on that single compliance count rather than of stealing customer funds.

Clemency

2025-03-27: Full and unconditional pardon of the specified federal case, including remission of court-ordered fines, penalties, forfeitures, and restitution stated in the warrant.

Trump Connection

Delo was pardoned together with fellow BitMEX founders Arthur Hayes and Samuel Reed, creating a company-linked clemency group rather than an isolated grant. The public materials identify no personal, campaign, or business relationship with Trump, no outside advocate, and no individualized presidential rationale. The shared timing does not itself explain why Trump selected the three cases.

  • 2026-09-23 · related company development

BitMEX confirmed that its exchange stopped trading on September 23, 2026, following a board decision announced in July. Account access continued for withdrawals and wind-down matters.

Legal Status: Company business development; the announcement does not establish any individual's current management role, a new charge, or a change to the separate presidential pardon.
