Case Summary

"It has come to my attention that there was someone who looks like me at the Capitol," Andrew Hatley, a truck driver from South Carolina, wrote on Facebook shortly after Jan. 6, 2021, according to the FBI complaint. "I'd like to set the record straight. I don't have that kind of motivation for lost causes. I just don't care enough anymore; certainly not enough for all that." According to court documents, FBI agents claim Hatley's cellphone had been broadcasting his location at the Capitol building during the riot through Life360, a geolocation app that can share a person's location with other users of the app. When he was reached on the phone by the FBI, court documents state, Hatley said that "he was not sure how much he should say without legal counsel because he could be in a great deal of trouble." He was arrested on Jan. 19, 2021, in Eloy, Ariz.

Case History

Hatley pleaded Guilty to one charge: Parading, Demonstrating, and Picketing in a Capitol Building. The other charges were dismissed. Sentenced 12/16/2021 to 36 months probation; Special Assessment of $10; Restitution of $500. Hatley received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
