Case Summary
“Are you going to arrest me, too?” Agnieszka Chwiesiuk asked when FBI agents visited her home in June 2021, according to a statement of facts. Instead, they arrested her brother, Chicago police officer Karol Chwiesiuk. On Jan. 6, 2021, surveillance footage showed a woman accompanying Karol Chwiesiuk, but the woman's face was almost entirely obscured by a hat and face mask. However, court records state that photos recovered from Karol Chwiesiuk’s phone after his arrest show Agnieszka Chwiesiuk unmasked in the U.S. Capitol Crypt and posing with her brother just inside the Senate Wing door. After identifying Agnieszka Chwiesiuk from her brother’s photos, the FBI claims publicly available video shows she and her brother spent about 10 minutes inside the Capitol. She was arrested Dec. 19, 2022, in Chicago.
Case History
Chwiesiuk pleaded Not Guilty to all charges. Found Guilty in a jury trial on 8/11/2023 on all charges. Sentenced on 1/24/2024 to 3 years probation; 90 days location monitoring/home detention; $70 special assessment; $500 restitution; 200 hours of community service. Chwiesiuk received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
