Original Case

Kidan pleaded guilty in the SunCruz casino-boat financing fraud. He and his partners used a fabricated $23 million wire-transfer document to persuade lenders that they had supplied the required equity for the purchase, enabling them to obtain the loans. On March 29, 2006, the court sentenced Kidan to 70 months in prison, three years of supervision, and $21,701,015.45 in restitution.

Clemency

July 3, 2026: full and unconditional pardon in United States v. Kidan et al., No. 0:05-cr-60204. The pardon is distinct from a judicial reversal of the guilty plea and sentence.

Trump Connection

Kidan had a documented fundraising and donor relationship with Trump’s political network, including Trump-aligned committees and an event at Mar-a-Lago. Three days before the pardon, he donated to Representative Ryan Mackenzie’s leadership PAC; Mackenzie’s office said the congressman did not advocate for clemency and later returned the contribution. The access, money, and timing warrant disclosure, but the available record does not prove an exchange.
